Review highlights
Based on 1,075 reviewsZakkushi Dining on Main is widely praised for its authentic Japanese izakaya experience, highlighted by a cozy ambiance and traditional binchotan charcoal grilling that imparts a distinctive smoky flavor to the yakitori. Reviewers consistently appreciate the fresh, flavorful skewers, particularly chicken and pork, along with thoughtful presentation and a warm, attentive staff that enhances the dining atmosphere. The restaurant’s interior design and intimate setting often evoke a nostalgic feel reminiscent of small dining spots in Japan. While service is generally friendly and efficient, some guests note occasional delays during busier times. Reservations are recommended due to the venue's popularity, and the menu is best suited for meat lovers rather than vegetarians.
Great interior design, nice people, tasty yakitori selection, service became slow in the middle but it was okay. The food was delicious.
We came here to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and had such a lovely experience! The staff surprised us with a little birthday cake with a candle — it was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture that truly touched our hearts. The food was fresh and delicious, and the service was warm and attentive throughout our meal. Everything from the ambiance to the presentation felt just right. You can really feel the care they put into every detail. Thank you for making our special day even more memorable. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Authentic Japanese izakaya with traditional binchotan charcoal that added a smoky flavour! From the moment you step in, the cozy ambiance and the aroma of sizzling yakitori skewers transport you straight to the heart of Japan. Their menu boasts a variety of mouth-watering options, but the highlights are undoubtedly the yakitori selections. Chicken and pork skewers were always grilled to perfection every time I dine at Zakkushi, but somehow the quality of beef skewers were on and off sometimes. My must-order items are Momo Teriyaki, Cheese Mochi Maki, Norimayo Tsukune and Atsuyaki Tamago
The atmosphere of this place reminded me of the time we were in Osaka. The small diners in the alleys. Make sure you make a reservation before you go. It’s always busy. Definitely not for vegetarians. Gotta try the premium beef tongue. Staff were very friendly. The only reason i gave 4* for the food is, i would prefer my food hot when it arrives. Kampai!
This is our first time visiting there, we loved the skewers the service was very friendly. It didn’t took much long for the food to arrive. Overall good food with good ambiance.
It was an amazing experience with excellent service! We ordered a lot, but the most impressive dish was the premium beef tongue. It was cooked perfectly—extremely tender and juicy, not tough at all, and easily the best beef tongue I’ve ever had. The chicken meatball skewer was average, nothing special, and a bit salty. The best dishes were the beef, followed by pork, and then the chicken options. The assorted oden is highly recommended—it was stunning, with an excellent broth. For drinks, we had the shiso mojito and yuzu highball; both were great, but I’d especially recommend the shiso mojito.
My new favourite spot. Food was very good and waitresses were super kind.
I come here at least every couple of months, if not more. The food and service are always excellent and consistent. I love that they have rotating fresh sheets, so there's always something new to try if you’re a regular. If you're planning to go on a Friday or Saturday night, make sure to book a reservation at least a week in advance. This cozy vibe reminds me of the izakayas I went to in Japan. There's even a button by the smaller tables to call for service, so you won’t be forgotten in the tucked-away seats. They offer a selection of Japanese beers and sakes, though their non-alcoholic drinks tend to be quite sugary. I really miss their matcha parfait topped with a matcha lava cake for 9.80—they no longer offer it. But the matcha and black sesame ice cream are delicious, just a bit on the small side. There are so many standout dishes here, though the ankimo was the only one I didn’t care for. They have overcooked the beef tongue and lamb chops a couple of times too. The two of us typically spend around 90-120 depending on our appetite. We always order two Zakkushi sets, a karaage or Negi-toro don, two drinks, and sometimes a fresh sheet item, extra skewers, or a dessert to top it off.
